Monolithic churches of Lalibela 

"NEW JERUSALEM"

Many people dream of travelling to Ethiopia for its rich cultural heritage. One of the key and most extraordinary historical sites is that of Lalibela, famous for its eleven monolithic churches dating from the medieval period. Located in the heart of Ethiopia, these churches have the particularity of being dug and carved out of the rock! It constitutes an essential place of pilgrimage in the country.

During an incredibly interesting guided tour of the site, you will learn the history of the churches’ construction which is attributed to King Lalibela who undertook the mission to build a "New Jerusalem". As each of the churches has its own meaning, it will certainly take you one or two days to discover them all in detail. The presence of a few faithful will reinforce the religious and spiritual character of the place and will allow you to feel immersed in the Ethiopian culture.
