6 hotels where to extend the summer not far from Brussels

Updated: Sep 15, 2021

If the beginning of the school year is already over, the last rays of sunshine let us hope for a little "Indian summer". So before you take out your heavy jackets and plunge into autumn, why not consider a few days of change of scenery near Brussels?

1. Limbourg (La Butte aux Bois)

Between luxury outlet shopping at the Maasmechelen Village, walking in the National Park of the Upper Kempen and cycling in the middle of nature, Limburg is full of various activities.

For a luxurious getaway, you will find your happiness in one of the 59 rooms of the 5-star Domaine La Butte aux Bois. Their spa "La Forêt" and their 2-star restaurant "La Source" will make sure that you have an extraordinary experience, placed under the sign of pleasure and disconnection.

Hotel la Butte aux Bois, Paalsteenlaan 90, 3620 Lanaken, Belgium.

More info and reservations on labutteauxbois.be.

2. Baie de Somme (Hotel - Spa Les Corderies)

With its 3,000 hectares of National Nature Reserve and its endless bicycle paths, the Baie de Somme is a small haven of peace. We go there to see the seals of Hourdel, to walk in the superb national park of Marquenterre and to discover the hundreds of species of birds that pass by, but also for its charming little villages along the water.

We recommend the hotel Les Corderies to relax after a day in the open air. Our favorite ? Its spa overlooking the Bay of the Somme and the heated indoor pool, everything you need to have a great time.

Located 3 hours by car from Brussels, this region is the ideal place for a few days break in the fresh air.

Hotel Les Corderies, 214 Rue des Moulins, 80230 Saint-Valery-sur-Somme, France.

3. Maastricht (Kruisherenhotel Maastricht)

Maastricht is a charming little town, well known to the Belgians, located not far from the border and full of all kinds of activities. In addition to its many small breweries and cafes, nice stores and pedestrian center, it is home to the Kruisherenhotel, a 15th century monastery that has been completely converted into a hotel.

Our favorite part of the hotel is without a doubt its incredible restaurant, located in the nave and choir of the church. A unique setting only a few kilometers from Brussels!

Kruisherenhotel Maastricht, Kruisherengang 19, 6211 NW Maastricht, Netherlands.

4. Valencienne (Royal Hainaut Spa Resort Hotel)

Located a few kilometers from the Belgian border, the Royal Hainaut Spa & Resort Hotel welcomes you in an exceptional setting. This former 18th century historical monument converted into a hotel offers luxurious suites and rooms, with the added bonus of access to its spa, hammam and swimming pool located under the vaults. As you can see, the Royal Hainaut is the perfect place if you dream of a zen interlude out of time.

5. High Fens (Domaine des Hautes Fagnes Spa & Hôtel)

Located in the Eastern Cantons, the High Fens is a region that extends to the German border. The natural landscapes are among the most famous and beautiful in Belgium.

The Signal de Botrange and the Baraque Michel are the highlights of the region, but they are far from being the only attractions. The natural and authentic landscapes of the High Fens, with their wooden gratings and fir trees, transport us to northern lands.

After a long day of walking, we highly recommend the Domaine des Hautes Fagnes, a hotel and wellness complex nestled in the heart of the Ardennes for a natural rejuvenation.

Domaine des Hautes Fagnes, Rue des Charmilles 67, 4950 Ovifat.

6. Mechelen (Martin's Patershof)

Only 30 minutes by car from Brussels, Mechelen's numerous listed buildings and Flemish architecture will seduce you for a short weekend.

For the more active among us, it is possible to go boating, paddle on the Dyle river or to walk and cycle in and around the city. Another plus of the city: it houses the largest toy museum in Europe!

To stay in a unique setting, Martin's Patershof offers atypical rooms in a church converted into a four-star hotel, enough to give you a little break in an unusual setting!

Martin's Patershof, Karmelietenstraat 4, 2800 Mechelen.
